Américo Rodrigues was born in 1961, in Guarda, Portugal. He has done experimental work with his voice since 1979, when he worked with the actress Catherine Dasté, in Paris. Sound poet, actor, producer and programmer of cultural events. Poet with several books and object-poems published. He has developed a continuous work of vocal improvisation for theatre, music, poetry, dance and performance. Besides the voice, he has used toys, whistles, metallic silos, air horns and plastic trumpets. He participated in workshops in musical and vocal improvisation with Carlos Zíngaro, Gunter Muller, Silvia Barrios, Nuno Rebelo, Catherine Jauniaux, Shelley Hirsch, Elke Scheuffele, Frances Lynch, e Phil Minton, among others. He participated in improvisation sessions with Carlos Zíngaro, Jeffrey Morgan , Gregg Moore, Nuno Rebelo, Jean-François Lézé, José Braima Galissa, Harry Dawes, Hiroshi Kobayashi, Patrick Brennan, Nirankar Khalsa, Cristin Wildbolz, Ly Thanh Tiên, Josep-Maria Balanyà, Ulrich Mitzlaff, Stefano de Bonis, Nilo Gallego, Riccardo Massari, among others. Some of his themes integrate the anthology “Wat Out-New music from Portugal. Volume II”, released by Ananana. In 2000 he published the CD “O despertar do funâmbulo” (“The rise of the funambulist”) — Aquilo and Audeo. Represented in Homo Sonorus (international anthology of sound poetry” (Kaliningrad, 2001). In 2000, he made several presentations in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte e Maceió) included in the Ciclo Internacional de Poesia Sonora (International Cicle of Sound Poetry). In 2001 he created two shows of sound poetry “Como um relâmpago” and “Chamamento” (“Like lightning” and “Calling”). In 2003, he published a record of sound poetry called “Escatologia” (“Eschatology”). In 2004, with Jorge dos Reis, he published the CD “Trânsito local, trânsito vocal” (“Local traffic, vocal traffic”). Recently (in 2005) he published “Aorta tocante” (“Playing aorta”). He is the artistic director of Teatro Municipal da Guarda.
He is master in Sciences of Speech by the Aveiro’s University.
He has presented his work in several festivals in Europe and South America.
